Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Cutting

Frequently Asked Questions - SLON Laser

At SLON Laser, we work daily with industrial companies, engineers, contractors, and manufacturers who demand precision, speed, and reliability. We understand that every project presents technical, logistical, and commercial challenges, especially when it comes to laser cutting, bending, or custom production.

This FAQ section is designed to answer the most common laser cutting questions, as well as questions about our services, production capabilities, lead times, technical files, payments, and delivery. If you don’t find the answer to your question, our team will be happy to assist you.

General Questions

We work with many industries, including aerospace, automotive, construction, manufacturing, energy, electronics, industrial, mining, packaging, service centers, and steel machinery companies, as well as other sectors that require accurate and precise metal parts.

Yes. SLON Laser specializes in industrial metal fabrication and works exclusively in the B2B sector, for professional and commercial projects.

Yes. Our facilities are based in the Greater Montreal area, which allows us to offer fast turnaround times and efficient local service.

Absolutely. Our team offers comprehensive service in both French and English, for both communication and technical documentation.

Yes. We accept prototypes, small production runs, and larger-volume productions, depending on the client’s needs.

Metal Fabrication Process Questions

We primarily work with steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. But our laser cutting machine can cut a wide range of materials: copper, brass, plastics, acrylic, wood, plywood and other materials can be evaluated depending on the project. The material and thickness will influence the choice of type of laser and the method of cutting.

A fiber laser cutter is ideal for thicker materials and high-speed industrial production, while CO₂ laser cutters are better suited for thin materials or fine, decorative cuts. Choosing the right laser system ensures accurate and precise cuts for your specific application.

We can process sheet material up to 5 x 10 feet for fiber laser, 6,5 x 13 feet for CNC and 63″ x 39″ for CO2. This large-format cutting capacity reduces design constraints, minimizes unnecessary assembly, and allows for more efficient production of complex parts.

Our equipment allows us to maintain cutting tolerances of ±0.1 mm, depending on the material being cut, thickness, and type of operation (laser cutting, bending, or CNC machining).

Yes. We provide precision CNC bending with multi-axis press brakes, integrated directly into the production flow. This ensures accurate cuts are maintained throughout the forming process.

Yes. Our 3-axis CNC services include drilling, routing, and profiling of metal or composite parts, using high power laser and advanced CNC techniques to meet your cutting needs.

Yes. We offer welding for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, including multi-part assembly. Welding is coordinated with our laser cutters used to ensure precise cuts and proper alignment of components.

Yes. We accept CAD, DXF, PDF, EPS, AI, and DWG files. We can also optimize files for laser power, cutting capabilities, and your specific cutting needs.

Yes. Prototyping is an integral part of our services. Using our laser machine, we can cut a wide range of materials to validate concepts before production, ensuring the right cutting tolerances and highly accurate results.

Yes. From file preparation to cutting, bending, and welding, everything is done in-house. Our integrated process, using a laser and other metal fabrication techniques, allows us to maintain consistent cutting capabilities and superior cutting accuracy.

Our laser cutting machine, a high-power fibre laser cutter from the ByCut Smart series, is capable of cutting a broad range of sheet metal thicknesses with excellent quality and precision.

With configurable laser  it can cut stainless steel and aluminum up to approximately 20 mm thick and similarly thick sections of steel and other metals when properly configured and maintained. This capability ensures efficient processing of both standard and more demanding materials while maintaining tight tolerances and repeatable results.

We combine advanced laser cutters used, optimized laser power, and careful setup to ensure highly accurate, precise cuts suitable for cutting both thin materials and thicker materials. Our expertise guarantees that your cutting needs are met consistently.
